Continuing Education

Dade Medical College's School of Continuing Education offers non-credit courses for students and working professionals in support of their professional development, advancement and licensing/registry attainment and/or renewal.  Courses offered include continuing education units (“CEUs”) courses, professional registry/licensure examinations review and preparation and certificate courses.  Courses are offered on weekdays and weekends with flexible schedules and hours in our fully- equipped classrooms at our four conveniently located campuses in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.  Course tuition includes textbook, when applicable, uniform, materials and registration. 

 

CERTIFICATE COURSES

Phlebotomy Certificate Course

Our Phlebotomy Certificate Course is a comprehensive 40-hour course   taught in a fully-equipped classroom setting by our faculty that allows students to become familiar with drawing blood by venipuncture and capillary puncture.  Students are taught safe and efficient best practices in obtaining, labeling and transporting blood specimens and Center for Disease Control (“CDC”) guidelines for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and other diseases are emphasized.  The course familiarizes the students with a hospital or clinical setting and prepares them to serve as Phlebotomy Technicians.  Students receive practical hands-on experience in the proper use of associated medical equipment and clinical practices and earn their certificates following successful completion of the course.   

 

Courses are scheduled on Saturdays on different dates at our four campus locations and are held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for eight (8) consecutive Saturdays. 

 

ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY (“EKG”) CERTIFICATE COURSE

The Electrocardiography (“EKG”) Certificate Course is a comprehensive 40-hour course taught in a fully-equipped classroom setting by our faculty that allows students to become familiar with important practice and background information on anatomy of the heart and physiology, medical disease processes, medical terminology and ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, laboratory assisting, electrocardiography and echocardiography while familiarizing and preparing them for a hospital or clinical setting to serve as Electrocardiograph Technicians.  Students receive practical experience in the proper use of associated medical equipment and clinical practices and earn their certificates following successful completion of the course.

CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS (“CEUs”) COURSES

MASSAGE THERAPY

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

The Lymphatic Drainage Massage CEUs Course is a 16-hours     Continuing Education Units (“CEUs”) course for the professional development and/or licensure renewal requirements for licensed massage therapists (“LMTs”).  The students will learn lymphatic drainage massage, a method specifically designed to better the essential functions of the circulatory system.  By using specific strokes in a rhythmic manner, better lymphatic circulation is attained and interstitial fluid is eliminated.  Following completion of the course, the LMT should be capable of performing lymphatic drainage massage along with pathology methods related to the lymphatic system.

 

We promptly post earned CEUs in CE Broker, the Florida Department of Health partner for reporting CEU credits. 

 

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

The Deep Tissue Massage CEUs Course is a 16-hours Continuing Education Units (“CEUs”) course for the professional development and/or licensure renewal requirements of licensed massage therapists (“LMTs”).  LMTs will be able to understand the theory and application of different techniques necessary in the practice of massage, theory and application of muscle restore technique, trigger point therapy, muscle-stretching techniques and deep tissue massage as well as develop proper body mechanics and application of manual and mechanical techniques.

 

We promptly post earned CEUs in CE Broker, the Florida Department of Health partner for reporting CEU credits. 

 

REGISTRY/BOARD REVIEW AND PREPARATION COURSES

MASSAGE THERAPY

Our Massage Therapy Board Examination Review and Preparation Course is a 12-week review and preparation course consisting of 12 individual weekly modules taught by our faculty for students preparing to take the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination (“MBLEx”) or National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (“NCBTMB”) examination.  Each module consists of 20 classroom hours covering specific modules’ objectives and content.  Body systems, kinesiology, pathologies, hydrotherapy and Oriental modalities and ethics, law and business applicable to the massage therapy profession are the primary areas covered.  Students have the option of taking the complete 12-week course or select individual modules of interest based on individual needs in either of two languages, English or Spanish.  

 

AMERICAN REGISTRY OF RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGISTS (“ARRT”) CERTIFICATION TEST REVIEW AND PREPARATION COURSE        

 
The ARRT Certification Test Review and Preparation Course is designed to assist students that are candidates (graduates of an accredited radiology educational program) for primary certification in Radiology through the ARRT or the State of Florida for Certified Radiologic Technologist (“CRT”) licensure, as they prepare for the certification examination(s).  Students will take a simulated mock registry exam on the first day of the course to assist faculty in determining specific areas of need.  
 

ULTRASOUND PHYSICS REVIEW FOR THE AMERICAN REGISTRY FOR DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL SONOGRAPHY (“ARDMS”) SONOGRAPHY PRINCIPLES AND INSTRUMENTATION (“SPI”) EXAMINATION REVIEW AND PREPARATION


Our Ultrasound Physics Review for the ARDMS SPI Examination Review and Preparation course is designed to prepare students for the SPI examination offered by the ARDMS.  This course provides students with a review of Basic Mathematical Principles and Physics Sonographic Principles and Instrumentation classroom training in an easy-to-understand format with all the necessary information for the student to prepare for the examination.  Topics are explained clearly and simply and each concept is understood through the use of educational tools that include comprehensive seminars and practice exam questions to obtain and/or improve multiple-choice test-taking skills.   
 

ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY REGISTRY REVIEW COURSE

The Echocardiography Registry Review Course is designed to assist students that are candidates (graduates of an accredited Echocardiography or Cardiovascular Technology educational program) for primary registration as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (“RDCS”) with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (“ARDMS”).  The review will consist of registry examination-type questions which include Anatomy and Physiology, Clinical Indications, technique, 2-Dimensional and M-Mode echocardiography, Spectral and Color Flow Doppler imaging, evaluation of heart valves, diseases of the heart, pathological mechanisms, clinical manifestations and therapeutic measures of diseases that affect the heart.  

NATIONAL COUNCIL LICENSURE EXAMINATION – REGISTERED NURSE (“NCLEX-RN”) | NATIONAL COUNCIL LICENSURE EXAMINATION – PRACTICAL NURSE (“NCLEX-PN”) REVIEW AND PREPARATION COURSE

The objective of our NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN Review and Preparation Course is to prepare the students for their next important professional goal:  to successfully pass the State Board exam and become a Registered or Licensed Practical Nurse.  This course includes the students completing a comprehensive review of pertinent topics covered in the examination and critical thinking and test-taking strategies.  Students will be exposed to questions that closely mirror the NCLEX examination.
